Members of a Senate standing committee Thursday expressed extreme displeasure over the lack of forensic laboratories in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after visiting Mardan in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl.

Speaking to media persons, Senator Nasreen Jalil said that all provinces should establish forensic labs on similar lines as Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) to effectively support investigators in nabbing criminals involved in rapes and murders.

Mocking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) slogan of change, the senator said, “We expected a so-called ‘change’ in the health services of the province but we were wrong.” She said that it was essential for all institutions to establish close coordination among each other in order to improve the overall system in the province. She also urged the Punjab government to send the results of the forensic test conducted in connection with the Mardan rape case without any delay.

The minor girl Asma disappeared from Gujjar Gahri area of Mardan on January 13. Her body was found the next day with marks on her neck, pointing towards strangulation. Cases of child molestation and murders have taken Pakistan by storm in the last few months, including the brutal rape and murder of a minor Zainab in Kasur district of Punjab that rattled the entire country to its core.
