Industrialist Azam Saigol passes away in US

Renowned industrialist Muhammad Azam Saigol breathed his last on Thursday morning while undergoing medical treatment in Boston, US. He was 67.

He was the husband of Dawn Media Group Chairperson Amber Haroon Saigol.

His funeral prayers will be offered at his residence 100 E-1, Ghalib Road, Gulberg, Lahore, on Saturday at 4.30pm.

Whereas, his Qul will be held at his residence on Sunday, January 28, between Asr and Maghrib.

He will be laid to rest thereafter at the graveyard on Gurumangat Road, his family announced on Thursday.

Expressing profound grief over the sad demise of Azam Saigol, renowned journalist and Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said that he has lost a dear friend in Azam Saigol. He offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. He also prayed that may Allah grant courage and patience to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.

Born on November 17, 1951, Saigol attended Oxford University where he received bachelor’s degree in Economics and Economic History from Brasenose College Oxford University, UK. He held vast experience in handling big industrial concerns and corporations. He also held key executive and directorial positions at Kohinoor Industries Ltd, Saritow Spinning Mills, Pak Elektron Ltd and Azam Textile Mills.

Azam also remained a member of the board of directors of Pakistan International Airlines from 2013 to 2016, and also led the national flag carrier as its chairman during 2016.
