PML-N submits resolution regarding seasonal influenza in Punjab Assembly

LAHORE: A resolution was introduced in the Punjab Assembly, on Wednesday by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the issue of an increasing number of deaths by seasonal influenza in the province.

The resolution submitted by PML-N member Hina Pervez Butt informed that the toll of seasonal influenza patients is increasing every day and that the number of affected persons has reached 218 during the past five weeks.

The resolution demands that steps should be taken across the province on emergency basis to prevent the life-threatening virus.

According to details, the overall death toll due to seasonal influenza virus in South Punjab has increased to 38.

A team of specialist doctors arrived in Multan in the first week of January for the treatment of influenza. The team has been deployed at Nishtar Hospital while a massive influenza vaccination drive has been launched in Multan region to control the epidemic.

Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has already taken notice of the spread of influenza and directed relevant authorities to take all possible measures for its prevention. He also advised them to organise awareness campaign regarding the illness.
