ISLAMABAD: National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Chairperson Razina Alam Khan Wednesday said that cursing and desecrating the parliament was tantamount to blasphemy.

“Cursing and desecration of parliament are tantamount to blaspheming against Pakistan,” the chairperson observed in a letter addressed to the Senate chairman and the National Assembly speaker, according to a press release.

Rejecting the democratic system by a member of the National Assembly (MNA), namely Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, commensurate to the subversion of the constitution, which is the main foundation and binding force for Pakistan, she added.

While deploring the derogatory remarks against the parliament by sitting parliamentarians, Razina Alam said that such annoying remarks by these MNAs were not acceptable as this institution represented the mandate of the people of Pakistan.

She urged the Senate chairman and National Assembly speaker to take necessary steps to discourage such anti-democratic elements with a view to ensure the sanctity of the sacred institution.

She expressed her resolve and commitment toward strengthening democracy in the country, which she termed as the cornerstone of existence and a prerequisite for the development of Pakistan.
