KARACHI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood emphasized on Wednesday on the need to kick-start economic activities in the maritime sector which he said is one of the pillars of his vision.
The Naval chief stated this while addressing the representatives of the business community during his visit to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The visit was aimed at creating synergy between the local business community and the maritime sector so as to give a boost to country’s economy.
He said that through mutual cooperation and joint efforts, the maritime economy of the country can be boosted and its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth can be tripled. “We should jointly serve the national cause of developing country’s maritime sector and make collective efforts for the progress and prosperity of country”, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, KCCI President Mufassir Atta lauded the role and efforts of Pakistan Navy in making Sea Lanes of Communication safe for trade. He also acknowledged that this is the first ever visit by any Naval Chief.
Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Operational Plans) also briefed the members of KCCI regarding the role and functions of Pakistan Navy and its potential and opportunities to develop national economy through the maritime sector.
Earlier, the Naval chief visited newly inducted Maritime Patrol Vessel PMSS DASHT. He was briefed about the functions and capabilities of the ship. The Admiral also visited Headquarters Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA).
On arrival at PMSA headquarters, the Naval chief was presented a guard of honour. During the visit, Admiral Zafar was briefed on the role, functions and future plans o PMSA. PMSA Director-General Rear Admiral Zaka ur Rehman was also present on the occasion.
