Another man suspected of teenage boy’s rape arrested

RAWALPINDI: Days after the arrest of the first suspect, police arrested the second alleged rapist of a teenage boy from a house on Rawalpindi’s Chakri Road.

The 14-year-old was allegedly kidnapped last Friday while he was on his way to a seminary for religious lessons. After being kidnapped he was taken to a nearby field and raped by two young men at gunpoint.

An FIR (first information report) was registered against two named suspects. According to the FIR, the suspects had recorded a video footage of the assault and had threatened to kill the victim if he resisted.

The victim’s father said that the young men blackmailed the family consistently with the video footage.

The suspect arrested by the police today is allegedly a relative of a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader, according to reports.

A medico-legal examination of the victim conducted earlier will confirm whether or not the boy was actually raped.

Since the beginning of 2018, many cases of sexual abuse and murder have been reported. It started with the murder of Zainab Ansari in Kasur earlier this month which shocked the country specifically.

Seven-year-old Zainab Fatima Ameen went missing on January 4 and was later found dead in a rubbish dump after several days of her disappearance.  Prior to her kidnapping, Zainab had gone to her tuition centre but did not return. Her parents had gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, and the girl was living with her aunts.

Zainab’s murder triggered protests all over the country which saw two protesters being killed in clashes with police after violent mobs ransacked a hospital and the house of a ruling party’s lawmaker.

Her murderer, Imran Ali, was arrested on Tuesday. Since 2016, serial killer Imran Ali has raped and killed at least eight girls between the ages of 5 and 9 in Kasur.

The Punjab government had set up a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the case and Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had also taken Suo moto notice of the incident.
