ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhary Wednesday told the National Assembly that about 40 to 50 patients are undergoing the process of dialysis daily at PIMS.
The minister said that at present, there are 12 dialysis machines in PIMS out of which 11 are functioning while only two nephrologists are working in the hospital. He added that 242 beds are available in the children wards while the children emergency had 12 beds.
To a question, the minister said that the government is considering expansion of the Federal General Hospital (FGH) at Chak Shahzad, which is a regular hospital and providing outdoor and indoor emergency services.
Tariq Fazal further said that the FGH is also providing laboratory and radiological diagnostic facilities, adding that everything is provided free of cost in the hospital.
To another question, he said that the facility of liver transplant started in PIMS on the direction of the prime minister in 2010. He said that 95 posts of different cadres were sanctioned at the time of establishment of the centre for liver disease and liver transplant in PIMS, and out of these posts, 57 are filled and 38 are still vacant.
The minister, however, said that the position pertaining to the highly skilled professionals like consultant anaesthetist liver transplant surgery, consultant radiologist (interventional), consultant hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgeon and consultant hepatologist could not be filled.
The minister said the PM Grievance Cell has been established to provide free of cost liver transplant to the patients.
