ISLAMABAD: Senate Special Committee to examine annual report of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) for the year 2015 on Tuesday discussed the methodology and procedure of holding different competitive examinations.

The meeting was held here at Parliament House under the convenorship of Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah. The meeting was also attended by Senator Mohsin Laghari, Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Senator Taj Haider and Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak. Foreign Affairs secretary and Establishment Division secretary also attended the meeting.

The committee directed Establishment Division, FPSC and Higher Education Commission (HEC) to submit their suggestions before the committee for finalising recommendations.

The committee discussed the realisation of a mandate of the FPSC, with particular relevance to contemporary needs of the country.

The committee also discussed in detail the FPSC Ordinance 1977, as well as structural changes with a futuristic approach. The representative of HEC suggested that in order to discourage the absenteeism and appearing of non-serious candidates, a pre-screening test may be conducted as an initial scrutiny for the main CSS exam.

The committee was informed that the trend of choosing subjects on the basis of high score proved to be a wrong choice for candidates.

Convener Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah said that the committee would continue its efforts to finalise its report after taking all the stakeholders on board.
