KARACHI: Japanese Consul-General (CG) in Karachi, Toshikazu Isomura, on Tuesday called on the Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Chairperson Naheed Memon at her office here in Karachi.
Talking to the Japanese CG, Naheed said that the friendly old relations between Pakistan and Japan can further be strengthened through mutual cooperation in different sectors.
Exchanging views on various matters of mutual interests, she said the volume of the mutual trade between Pakistan and Japan is around $1.75 billion per year, that includes both exports and imports.
She informed that exports from Pakistan to Japan have decreased over the past few years that can now be increased with the cooperation of the Japanese CG.
She stressed upon to further strengthen the Pak-Japanese Business Forum and said if Japan is interested in investment in some particular sectors here in Pakistan, the SBI is ready to extend all possible cooperation.
The chairperson said that the establishment of Special Economic Zones can also be discussed. She added that the Japanese investors must feel comfortable in investing in Pakistan since the security situation has improved.
The Japanese CG agreed with the chairperson and said that more benefits can be obtained from the investment opportunities through the exchange of trade delegations.
The CG said that Japan intends to enhance the trade in textile, sports goods, surgical items, seafood, leather items and mango imports from Pakistan.
Talking to the Japanese envoy, Naheed Memon said that Pakistan wants the cooperation of Japan in IT, education and vocational training sectors.
