RAWALPINDI: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor on Monday said that there was no danger to democracy in the country as long as its fruits reach to the public.

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had said on several occasions that he believed in the supremacy of Constitution, said the ISPR chief while speaking on a private news channel.

He further said that the Senate elections will be conducted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Pakistan Army has no role in them.

The military spokesman said that the country’s institutions are fighting extremism and terrorism for which stability is important and change in the country should come through political means.

In regards to the upcoming general elections, the military spokesman said the army will follow all instructions pertaining to the elections, within the limits of the Constitution.

Speaking about the recent terror attacks in Afghanistan, the major general said it was wrong to say that the Haqqani Network and other groups conduct attacks in Afghanistan from Pakistan.

The statement by the army’s spokesperson comes after Pakistan rejected the “knee-jerk allegations” by some Afghan circles of the attack on Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul.

The military spokesperson in a reference to the continued ceasefire violations by the Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC), said that Indian aggression is aimed at diverting Pakistan’s attention from the ongoing war on terror.

Gen Ghafoor further said that the ongoing freedom movement in occupied Kashmir was getting out of India’s control.
