Sindh leads in producing environment friendly energy: Mir Hazar Khan

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Planning and Development Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani said on Monday that our provincial government is ahead of all other provinces in producing low-cost and environment-friendly energy in an effort to end the energy crisis of Pakistan.

He said this while addressing 2nd International Conference on Chemical Engineering held by Mehran University. He elaborated it by saying that Sindh government has established a wind corridor by installing hundreds of wind plants in Gharo Jhampir and Thatta with the cooperation and support of Turkey, China and many other countries.

The minister said that we can achieve sustainable development goals set by the world bodies like United Nations and other international organisations to spread the use of environment-friendly power across the world. He further added that Thar Coal Project is a landmark achievement to meet the growing energy needs through low-cost and indigenous recourses because the addition of Thar Coal Energy to the national grid would most likely lower the skyrocketing electricity rates.

Mir Hazar Khan told the conference that with the support of Asian Development Bank, the province has started a Sindh Coastal Community Development project for the development and protection of environment across the coastal region. He further added that the passage of Environment Act 2014 and the establishment of Sindh Environmental Protection Agency were two very important measures taken to counter the threats posed by climate change.
