KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Monday passed a resolution condemning the negative remarks Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan and Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed made against the parliament.

The resolution which was presented by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) M Zafar Kamali, states that the PTI chief berated the parliament by using foul language for it and thus, should apologise to the nation.

Adding to this, provincial assembly members also warned of staging a protest if Imran Khan does not express regret at his wrongdoing.

A similar resolution was passed by the National Assembly on January 18 regarding the same kind of behaviour by the PTI chief and his ally Rasheed. Imran had cursed the parliament for allowing Nawaz Sharif to contest a re-election for the party head after his disqualification during the joint opposition rally held on January 17 at Charing Cross, Lahore.

“I send ‘laanat’ (curse) the parliament that made a criminal the president of a party,” he said in an apparent reference to expelled PM Nawaz Sharif being elected as the PML-N president.

Imran’s remarks were followed by Sheikh Rasheed’s bashing of the parliament and his announcement of resigning the assembly.

However, Rasheed who flew to Dubai following the rally has yet to resign.

The NA resolution that was adopted owing to the absence of a majority of PTI members, detailed that the two politicians accused caused damage to Parliament’s supremacy despite being MNAs.

It further added that the duo attempted to defame a ‘supreme institution’.
