ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Senator Rehman Malik on Monday said that the Punjab police were making their best efforts to arrest the culprit in Zainab’s murder case and hoped that they would succeed.
Talking to media along with the parents of Zainab outside the Parliament House here, Rehman Malik said that he had requested the girl’s parents to attend the meeting of the Senate committee. He said that Zainab was a daughter of the whole nation and nobody should politicise the matter.
The today’s meeting of the committee would not affect the ongoing enquiry, he added.
The senator also said that eight such incidents had occurred, and according to the DNA test, only one person was involved in all the cases. He added that Kasur had been turned into a hub of rape and murder and the Senate body had directed the Punjab police to start a safe city project there.
Rehman Malik said that the parents of Zainab had recorded their statement before the committee in the presence of the additional inspector general of Punjab police, and the committee had directed the police officials to submit a comprehensive report to it within 15 days.
Zainab’s father blamed the police for inaction in the first five days when Zainab was kidnapped, and said that the accused did not belong to his family as according to the CCTV footages he looked like a stranger.
He also said that he and his family were cooperating with the police and also voluntarily offered themselves for DNA tests.
