Judiciary needs to introspect before rectifications: Khursheed Shah

• NA opp leader says PTI received over Rs 100 million from parliament besides other perks 

• Says PPP does not support former SSP Rao Anwar

A day after Pakistan Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s telling the judiciary to focus on its job, PPP leader Khursheed Shah also came forward, saying that the higher judiciary needs to set its own house in order, before going about rectifying other state institutions.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday, NA Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah said that the courts are meant to deliver justice, but there still are 0.8 million cases pending in before the Supreme Court.

Retorting to the SC over the good governance, he said disposing of these cases is also governance.”

PTI MPs SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED AFTER PARTY CURSED PARLIAMENT: Khursheed Shah also bashed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and chief Imran Khan for statements against the parliament, saying after Imran’s tirade the PTI lawmakers have lost moral authority to be the members of parliament.

Speaking at his chambers, the opposition leader said that the resignations of the PTI lawmakers should have come immediately following the tirade.

After the cursing of parliament by their chief, the PTI lawmakers should not have waited or held consultations regarding their resignations from the house.

At the joint Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)-led opposition rally on January 17 in Lahore, Imran had cursed the parliament for allowing Nawaz Sharif’s re-election as the party head after his disqualification.

Slamming the PTI leaders for using abusive language against the parliament, Shah was of the opinion that the law should be the same for everyone, even when it comes to perks associated with it.

He claimed that the PTI has received more than Rs100 million from parliament, apart from other facilities.

Touting Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) commitment to democracy, Shah said party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari have always vowed not to let the system get derailed.

Shah dismissed the media reports of the PPP’s support to former SSP Rao Anwar, saying Asif Zardari is not backing the ‘controversial’ police officer.

“If Rao Anwar fails to present himself before the court, then he will face a judicial inquiry,” said the opposition leader.

Earlier in the day, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution condemning Imran Khan and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed’s remarks against the parliament.

The resolution stated that Imran insulted parliament by hurling abuses at it, adding that Imran should apologise to the nation.
