PM lays floral wreath at monument of ‘Unsung Heroes of Democracy’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday laid a floral wreath at the monument of the “Unsung Heroes of Democracy” at the Parliament House.

The prime minister was accompanied by Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, Leader of the House in National Assembly Raja Zafar-ul-Haq and representatives from almost all the political parties in the parliament.

The wreath-laying ceremony at the monument was reflective of the strong desire of the PM as well as other parliamentarians for a strong democracy and a pledge to protect and promote the democratic traditions in the country. The gathering vowed to work for the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law and strengthening of the democratic system.

The monument, which is a brainchild of Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, was inaugurated back in March 2017. The mural erected at the front lawns of the parliament has been conceived and designed by artists from the Lok Virsa. The mural depicts the struggle of the political workers, intellectuals, journalists, labourers, farmers, writers and people from all walks of life who remained undeterred and proved to be the real unsung heroes of democracy.

The event was also attended by other political figures including the leader of Jamat-e-Islami Siraj ul Haq, Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Ghafoor Haidri, Senator Nehal Hashmi and Maulana Tanvir ul Haq Thanvi.
