LAHORE – Pakistan’s ace tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi continues to make waves on the international professional tennis’ doubles circuit. In his latest achievement he has become the first Pakistani tennis player ever to reach the quarter final round in an Australian Open Grandslam Tennis Championship.

Pairing with Marcin Matkowski of Poland, the pair defeated the Brazilian/Philippino duo of Demoliner and Treat Huey in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4 while in the second round they beat the strong built and exceptionally tall team of Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Croatia’s Franko Skugor with a matching score of 7-6, 6-4.

In the pre-quarterfinal, the brace were to face the Moldovan/Korean duo of Albot and Chung who opted not to come to court, handing Aisam and partner a walkover into the quarterfinal, where they will take on the world famous duo of Bryan Brothers of USA. The match is slated for the prestigious Rod Laver Arena at 5 AM Pakistan time on Jan 23 (Tuesday) and shall be telecast live on Sony Six Channel, while PTV Sports is surprisingly playing truant.

It may be recalled that Aisam had the best run of his career in 2017 when he won six ATP doubles titles – each of these with a different partner.
