Man who allegedly raped Imam’s son arrested in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: One of two alleged rapists of a teenage boy was arrested on Sunday in the Bank Colony area of Dhamial in Rawalpindi district.

The 14-year-old boy who is the son of an Imam was headed to the local mosque for Quran lessons on Friday when he was allegedly abducted and raped at gunpoint by two youths in a field.

A first-information report (FIR) was lodged against the suspects identified as Chaudhary Arbab and Raja Adil. According to the FIR, the two accused recorded video footage of the alleged assault and threatened to kill the victim if he resisted.

While speaking to the media, the victim’s father stated that the suspects had also blackmailed the family by threatening to release the video if unless they compromised and deferred the issue. He further said that the police only took action after the congregation he leads staged a protest outside the Saddar Bairooni police station once they found out of his son’s torment.

Station House Officer (SHO) Malik Rafaqat confirmed that an FIR had been lodged against the suspects and that a medico-legal examination of the victim had also been conducted and added that the results of the report would reveal whether the boy was raped or not.

Meanwhile, the police arrested one of the two suspects, Raja Adil, after a raid.  While the other suspect who SHO Rafaqat says is a close relative of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhary Nazeer, is still at large.
