HAFIZABAD: A Canadian woman travelled to Pakistan to tie the knot with the ‘love of her life’ who she met online and that too on Facebook.
Agnetha had met Qaiser Abbas, who hails from Jalalpur Bhattian, on the social media website a year ago.
Their friendship soon blossomed into love and Agnetha came to Pakistan to marry Qaiser.
The marriage ceremony was held in Hafizabad after Agnetha converted to Islam.
Similar incidents have previously also taken place.
Last year, in January 2017, a Japanese woman reached Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab to marry a Pakistani citizen whom she got to know through Facebook.
“I will live in Japan with Ahmed after marriage,” the woman, Maria Edlen, said while talking to the media. She added that she converted to Islam.
Ahmed Noor, 30, a resident of Shamsabad area in Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan became friends with 29-year-old Edlen on Facebook.
They are said to have gradually turned into lovers from being virtual friends, making Edlen travel to Rahim Yar Khan.
Earlier this year, a Japanese girl and a 25-year-old man from Sadiqabad also read their vows and got married. The two became friends through Facebook two years ago. Their friendship turned into love and girl reached Pakistan upon invitation.
The girl converted to Islam in the District Court and changed her name upon marriage.
In another such incident in December 2016, a French woman travelled to Rahim Yar Khan to marry a 29-year-old man, Umair Ahmed, whom she virtually met, on Facebook.
The French woman, Katherine Louvet, had converted to Islam, naming herself Ayesha.
