LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday directed that the investigation of Zainab rape-murder case should be completed at the earliest.

The chief minister directed the investigation team to speed up its effort and complete the case while making every humanly possible effort.

The chief of the investigation team, the RPO Multan, briefed the meeting regarding the progress on the case. The RPO Sheikhupura, the RPO Multan, DIG Investigation Lahore and DPO Kasur attended the meeting via a video link.

DPO STARTS MASS CONTACT CAMPAIGN AS KILLER STILL ON LOOSE: After Kasur police have failed to arrest the accused in the rape-murder case, the district police officer (DPO), Zahid Nawaz Marwat, fearing protests, has started meetings with the public in order to placate them.

DPO Zahid Nawaz visited the New Bazar of Kasur and held meetings with the traders while assuring them that the accused would be arrested soon.

As per details, the police and other law enforcement agencies have been utilising all resources available for the arrest, but they have failed to find even a single clue to trace the accused. Anger in the city is about to boil over as police remain clueless about the identity of the culprit.

The police, however, have arrested some innocent persons in this case which had bothered the families of the detained suspects. They have also conducted hundreds of DNA tests but to no avail.

The family of the deceased Zainab and residents of Kasur have expressed grave concern over the failure of police. They appealed to CM Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab IGP to arrest the accused as early as possible.

Separately, the DPO also held a meeting with the police officials at his office and directed the SHOs to ensure the law and order situation remains peaceful.

He also warned the officials that a strict action would be taken against corruption, fake FIRs and harassment. The DPO also ordered a crackdown against proclaimed offenders, robbers and drug peddlers.
