HANGU: Aurakzai tribesmen have rejected the 30-member jirga proposed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak for settling the demarcation issue between Kohat district and Aurakzai Agency.

The 30-member jirga neither included any tribesman nor any senator or member of National Assembly (MNA) from the tribal agency. The jirga only included the names of the political agent of Aurakzai Agency and elected representatives of Kohat district.

Tribesmen said that the territorial dispute between Kohat’s Muhammadzai tribe and Aurakzai Agency’s Bezot Khel tribe had been going on since 1986. Similarly, another dispute between Kachai Shaikhan village and Aurakzai tribesmen had also disturbed the peace of the area for long, they added. Many jirgas have been held to settle the dispute but the problem still persists without any settlement in sight.

The tribal elders maintained that the KP government should avoid taking a unilateral decision on the matter under political duress and warned of protest demonstrations if their concerns were not removed by the provincial government.
