Frequent deaths challenge KP’s claims of ‘upgrading health facilities’: report

PESHAWAR: At least three children passed away due to pneumonia in the provincial capital this week, challenging the provincial health ministry’s claims about upgrading the health facilities in the suburbs of the city, reported a local English daily.

According to the report, there has been a marked increase in the inflow of patients in the hospitals of the province and patients are not being treated ‘appropriately,’ which raises questions about the “claimed capabilities of these facilities” by the ministry.

Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) have admitted a number of children with complaints of acute respiratory infections, pneumonia and bronchiolitis but the hospitals reportedly have not been able to tend to their problems, according to a health official.

He further told the newspaper that the district health officers must be inquired by the ministry over their performance.
