FIA arrests man wanted for robbery, murder in UK from AJK

ISLAMABAD: A suspect wanted by United Kingdom (UK) authorities for an armed robbery and murder in Birmingham was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday.

The accused, Tahir Zarif had absconded from UK five days after robbing and murdering a businessman in the Digbeth area in February 2016. He was traced down in Mirpur on Wednesday evening, a source in the FIA told the media.

According to reports, Javeed who was a warehouse manager died after he was shot thrice on February 3, 2016. On February 9 the same year, five days after the crime, the British intelligence claimed that Tahir had arrived in Pakistan and had requested his extradition.

Following the incident, the additional deputy commissioner general issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the accused on December 12 last year.

The FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) had also been on the lookout; running ground checks, surveillance, deploying informants and carrying out raids in Jhelum and Mirpur during the last 15 days to materialise the arrest.
