Saba Qamar gets Filmfare nomination for Hindi Medium

2017 was definitely Saba Qamar’s year. The actress made her Bollywood debut, opposite Irrfan Khan, with the film Hindi Medium which was well-received and went on to become a box-office success worldwide. Along with that, Qamar also powerfully portrayed slain social media sensation, Qandeel Baloch, in the drama Baaghi and needless to say, the performance was applauded and the drama has received several nominations at the Lux Style Awards as well. If that was not enough, Qamar has now also bagged a Filmfare nomination for the ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female)’ category for Hindi Medium.

Other nominees in this category include Alia Bhatt for Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Sridevi for Mom, Bhumi Pednekar for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Vidya Balan for Tumhari Sulu and Zaira Wasim for Secret Superstar.

Hindi Medium has also received five other nominations including ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Director’; Raees and Mom also got nominated in five different categories. However, surprisingly neither Mahira Khan or Sajal Aly were nominated for their respective roles.

Late last year, Saba Qamar won the award for Best Breakthrough at the Masala Awards in Dubai, again for her role in Hindi Medium.

The 63rd edition of the Filmfare Awards will take place on the 20th of January in Mumbai. Shah Rukh Khan will be hosting the show along with the master of words, Karan Johar. Performances by Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Sunny Leone are expected to set the stage on fire.
