Muslim ummah, Pakistan can promote soft image through calligraphy: President

 

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday said that calligraphy was a great artistic and cultural heritage of the Muslims and both the Muslim Ummah and Pakistan could promote their soft image by paying attention to this art.

He said this while speaking to the calligrapher of Masjid-e-Nabvi Ustad Shafiq-uz-Zaman who along with a delegation called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

He said it was a matter of pride for the country that a Pakistani calligrapher had an opportunity to work at the Prophet’s Mosque. It had not only earned goodwill for Shafiq-uz-Zaman, but for the entire country, he added.

He underlined that young calligraphers would have an opportunity to explore the modern trends of calligraphy through the works of Shafiq uz Zaman.

President Mamnoon stressed that calligraphers should benefit from modern techniques and developments which would have a positive impact on their work.

He emphasised that calligraphy was a cultural heritage of the Muslims, which needed to be promoted further.

On the occasion, prominent calligrapher Wasil Shahid also presented a compilation of the works of Pakistani calligraphy to the president.
