ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday adjourned the hearing of a case seeking disqualification of Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on alleged misdeclaration of his assets before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in nomination papers until January 23.

A three-member larger bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Usman Dar.

During the course of proceeding, the counsel for the petitioner Sikandar Bashir Mohmand alleged that Asif had not declared assets of his wife and children in the nomination papers. He said that the foreign minister had also not declared his earnings from businesses abroad, as well as the salary received through UAE iqama.

Earlier in December, Usman, while talking about the disqualification petition against the foreign minister, told Pakistan Today that “the issue with Khawaja Asif is not new; rather it’s a 20-year-old one. We are fighting for [the sake of] Sialkot and to eradicate corruption from the city. We are trying to rid the city of Khawaja Asif.”

He said the iqama disqualification case involved many other grounds as well. “As a federal minister, Asif did not declare his global income,” he said.
