According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Liaqatabad Police Station, Dilawar went to the ground to play football with his friends, where they got involved in a quarrel with few other young men who claimed to be associated with a local cricket club.

After the confrontation, as many as 23 young men started beating Dilawar and his friends with cricket bats. The assailants continued to attack him even after Dilawal fell down following the initial blows, states the FIR.

However, at least three dozen people from the adjoining ground came to rescue Dilawar, and he was subsequently shifted to the General Hospital in a critical condition.

Three principal accused along with unidentified 20 others were charged under the Section 324 (attempt to murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The post-mortem report has confirmed that the victim received severe injuries after being hit by the bats, and this became the cause of his death.
