ISLAMABAD: Following the National Counter Terrorism Authority’s (NACTA) warning to the capital territory police of some potential terrorist activities in parts of Islamabad in the coming days, the security in the federal capital has been beefed up.

According to sources, NACTA had issued two alerts including that of a terror attack against police officials in areas around the F-8 sector, and another warning the police of a possible attack on foreigners in the capital.

A police officer confirmed that a warning against a possible attack on a police vehicle or convoy was issued recently, according to which a police bus could be targeted by the TTP. Another officer said that the other alert was somewhat imprecise and did not have too many details.

Both the officers also said that Nacta usually issues such alerts and forwards them to the ministry of interior that later forwards them to the concerned law enforcement agencies and institutions.

It was said by another officer that precautionary security measures had been put in place to avoid any untoward situation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the UK government also issued an advisory to the staff of the British High Commission on January 15 that asked the staff members to avoid areas around sectors F-8, F-9, G-8 and G-9.
