ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday said that the “three political cousins” — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) — are committing acts that violate the Constitution.
She said that what these three parties are now doing is tantamount to campaigning against the constitution. She lashed out at the parties for trying to bring the government down when it is serving the general public.
Talking to media in the federal capital, Aurangzeb said the government has launched CPEC for economic development and to overcome load shedding in the country. She said that the PML-N government reformed the health and education sectors.
The minister said the political opponents are attempting to derail the government through unconstitutional means.
Referring the recent PML (N) victory in a by-election in Chakwal, she that it proves that people still love PML-N under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as the party fulfilled all the promises made in 2013.
She said those who are busy in politics of container instead of politics of service will get nothing.
The united opposition, which includes Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami Muslim League (AML), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), has announced the commencement of anti-government protests.
The movement is aimed at mounting pressure on Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah to resign for their alleged role in the 2014 Model Town incident which resulted in deaths of PAT members.
Earlier, on Monday a bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected a petition to restrain the Pakistan Awami Tehreek-led political alliance from launching their protest drive from January 17 and referred the case to LHC Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to constitute a larger bench to hear the case.
A joint committee of anti-government parties let by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on January 13, formally sought Punjab government’s permission for carrying out the protest at Lahore’s Mall Road.
