KASUR: Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah has accused the government of arresting innocent people in connection with the Zainab murder case, only for its paperwork.
Zainab, who was the 12th minor victim of rape and murder in Kasur since 2015, went missing on January 4 while heading towards a relative’s home. Her bruised body was found a few days later in a garbage dump in the city.
The news shocked the entire country with #JusticeforZainab becoming the rallying cry while violent protests broke out in Kasur.
Each of the agencies entrusted with the case— Counter Terrorism Department, the Intelligence Bureau, the Special Branch and the Punjab Forensic Science Agency — have arrested suspects separately while investigating the matter. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader said that these things happen all over the world but the governments know how to handle them.
Shah said instead of protecting the life and property of people, the authorities here fire on the people who protest these incidents. He said that if such incidents were taken seriously before, things would have been different.
The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the way Punjab govt and police have been tackling the case. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar summoned the joint investigation team investigating Zainab murder case on Sunday.
