Provision of basic amenities government’s priority: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday said that the provision of basic facilities like education and health besides creation of employment opportunities are the priorities of his government.

The prime minister was talking to delegations of students belonging to Sindh Madressatul Islam, government schools Lower Topa, Lawrence College, Silkhatar and Islamabad Model School for Girls that called on him, a press release said.

He said that education is considered a key sector in a society, and throughout the world, efforts are being made for raising the standard of education by promoting youths’ capabilities and their best utilisation.

The interaction was a part of the PM’s Youth Contact Programme under which students from different educational institutes are being invited to the PM office and given a briefing about the functioning of country’s top administrative office.

The prime minister also stressed upon a uniform educational system in the country for the promotion of educational standards. After the 18th amendment, the subject of education was devolved to provinces, however, the federal government is providing all its support to the education sector, he added.

About the significance and role of education, he said that its promotion always resulted in the formation of better societies.

Responding to a student’s question, the prime minister said that the continuity of a democratic system is essential for the development of the country.

He advised the students to work hard by equipping themselves with the best education for national development and prosperity, as the talented youth are the future of Pakistan and a hope for achievement of national prosperity.

He informed the students about the steps taken by his government for the prosperity of the countrymen through a string of development projects and for raising the living standards of the people, expressing hope that those would be the harbinger of a positive change in the life of a common man.

To another question, the prime minister said that under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), complete attention was being paid to energy, road infrastructure and the industrial sector whereas, under CPEC projects, special measures had been taken for environmental protection.

Responding to another query, he said that in the democratic societies, governments are elected by the people through the use of ballots and stressed that the use of votes should be made in line with the national interests after a thorough consideration.

He observed that the future of a nation and country hinges on the public decision made during elections.

Vice Chancellor Sindh Madressatul Islam Dr Muhammad Ali Sheikh, on the occasion, gave a briefing and said that the institute also served as an alma mater of Quaid- e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during 1887. The Quaid had also donated a large part of his property for the institute so that its mission could continue.

He apprised that a youth leadership programme had also been initiated by the institute. Later, the students also visited different sections of the PM office where they were briefed about their specific functioning.
