LAHORE: Following directions of Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Aaliya Neelum held a meeting with the police authorities and issued guidelines and directions for improving quality of investigation in the cases of gender-based violence.
DIG Investigation Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry, SSP Investigation Muhammad Mubashar Maken, SP Legal Rana Muhammad Latif and DSP Legal Nasir Abbas also attended the meeting. The meeting was told that the Inspector General of Police has established a special cell to deal with the gender-based crimes at the Investigation Headquarters in Qilla Gujjar Singh.
As per the report sent by the Lahore Police, the SSP investigations will supervise the cell under the direct supervision of the DIG investigations. For the purpose, one male sub inspector and one female inspector have been appointed in all six divisions of the Lahore Police.
The police staff will be given modern training to deal with the gender-based cases and separate meeting with the NGOs and judges of the district Lahore would be conducted so that awareness can be created in the society and such violence be discouraged.
The court showed satisfaction on the report. The objective behind the establishing the cell is to investigate such cases on priority bases to free the society from this apprehension. The Lahore High Court has already established Pakistan’s first-ever Gender Based Violence Court in Lahore to deal such matters on priority bases.
