KP cabinet approves amendment in KP Hydel Development Funds Ordinance 2001

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Monday approved amendment in the KP Hydel Development Funds Ordinance 2001 for power generation through natural resources.

The amendment includes power generation through alternative energy sources, strengthening of oil and gas production through the fund, inclusion of oil and gas royalty, excise duty, windfall levy and electricity duty in the fund.

An official notification issued after the meeting said that the inclusion of other funds in the KP hydel development funds would help complete power projects in the province. It said that the amendment would help provide funds to the KP hydel development in the upcoming budget under the head of profit to be received from oil and gas royalty.

The meeting chaired by KP chief minister Pervez Khattak also approved the Universities’ Amendment Bill 2017 giving nod to the establishment of three public sector universities including the University of Lakki Marwat, University of Agriculture DI Khan and the University of Engineering and Technology Mardan.

The meeting approved the KP Higher Education Scholarship Endowment Fund Act 2014 approving endowment fund rules and the constitution of a scholarship management committee to award scholarships to deserving and talented students. The scholarships would also be awarded to the students of M.Phil, Ph.D., MS and BS.

The provincial cabinet approved an amendment in the KP standard weights and measures rules, and also approved the Local Government Fourth Amendment Bill 2017 for implementation of the local government act to newly established 14 teshils in the province.
