KARACHI: Six officials of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) were arrested on Sunday while three others were suspended in an alleged shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Intizar Ahmed.

Earlier, ACLC personnel of Sindh Police shot dead the youth in Defence Housing Authority’s Khayaban-e-Ittehad area on Saturday morning, confirmed DIG CIA Saqib Ismail.

The police had earlier maintained that the youth, identified as Intezar Ahmed, was killed in firing by unknown assailants on motorcycles. Later it was disclosed that the law enforcers had opened fire at his car after he failed to brake at a check-post.

A CIA official, while speaking to media outside the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, said that the family of the deceased could register a case (against the police officials).

A case had been registered at the Darakshan Police Station and four policemen were taken into custody due to their alleged involvement in the case.

The deceased’s father, Ishtiaq Ahmed, told the media outlets that Intezar, who recently came back from Malaysia, had a fight with two men, Fahad and Haider, a couple of days ago, who are said to be the sons of a lawyer and policeman respectively.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Javed Akbar said that 15 bullet cases of 9MM were recovered from the crime scene, claiming that the deceased was accompanied by a girl, who fled after the incident.

During a press conference with media, the counsel for victim’s family Mohammad Asif said that the boy was in good health and in complete consciousness at a friends house a few hours before the shooting.

“There was a clear intention to kill,” said the lawyer, explaining that bullet holes in the car were proof that the police aimed to kill and not to stop him. He also complained that even 3 to 4 hours after the incident, police failed to record the parents’ statement to be included in the First Information Report (FIR).

Speaking to the media, Intezar’s father said: “I want justice, I want the killers of my son”. Expressing zero faith in the police, he said he only trusts the chief justice of Pakistan and army chief to deliver justice.

The victim’s parents informed the media that their son, an only child, was 19 years old and studying at a university in Malaysia after completing his O and A levels from City School, Darakshan. Intezar had come to Pakistan for his winter break on November 29, they informed further.

Intezar Ahmed was buried here on Saturday.
