Karachi mayor to give recommendations to SC

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar announced on Sunday that he will provide a set of recommendations to the Supreme Court (SC) for the improvement of the Karachi metropolis.

Water is the most pressing issue of the city, and we need to take strict action against the illegal hydrants, he said. He also confessed that the people of Karachi are deprived of clean drinking water for many months now.

The mayor told that the apex court has asked for his help and suggestions to overcome the problems. He looked hopeful that Karachi’s issues will soon be solved.

Wasim Akhtar had appeared before the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry when Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar’s summoned government officials including the mayor Karachi. The SC had also asked for the recommendations of the mayor to bring betterment in the city’s state of affairs.

The CJP directed the mayor to wipe out the tanker mafia no later than two to three months. Karachi’s infrastructure is destroyed and time has come to work for the city by rising above political gains, he commented.
