LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif visited different sites of the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project early Sunday morning to inspect ongoing construction work.

CM Shehbaz visited different sites of the project during a two-hour visit and reviewed the progress of civil, mechanical and electrical works at various stations. He also visited the underground area and directed the officials concerned to expedite the pace of work to ensure its early completion.

He reviewed the ongoing construction work at Chauburji and its adjoining area. Later on, he also reviewed the progress of work on the Supreme Court Registry of the Lahore High Court and project work at GPO. He directed the officials concerned to arrange alternative routes during the closure of GPO roundabout so that the citizens would face the least difficulty. He also inspected constriction work near Shalamar Bagh and Lakshmi roundabout and appreciated the quality of construction work.

Talking on this occasion, Shehbaz said that this project would provide the common man with decent and world-class travelling facilities, while adding that the project would bring a revolution in the transport sector of the country. This project belongs to the people of Pakistan and we would compensate for the time lost during the project with hard work, dedication and passion.

While interacting with the citizens during his visit, he said that this project was delayed for 22 months due to opposition from several quarters, but now construction work was being carried out on different sites at a faster pace. He also said that some political elements have openly demonstrated their enmity against the people by obstructing the project.

The chief minister further said that he was personally monitoring the progress on the project to ensure its early completion, adding that the project was a great gift for the people of Pakistan from China. He said that this project was a key step towards diminishing the difference between the rich and the poor because the train would provide the common with a respectable means of transportation.

After the visit, the CM chaired a meeting at his Model Town office in connection with OLMT project. A detailed briefing was given to the CM over the progress of the project, as well as headway made during the construction work. During the meeting, C R NORINCO officials assured the meeting that the project would be completed at the earliest.
