LAHORE: Punjab minister for specialised healthcare and medical education, Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that after the success of the health insurance card scheme in four districts of the province, the scheme is being launched in another 13 districts out of which services have already been started in the Layyah district since November 2017.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq, who is also the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) chairman on Saturday, stated this while presiding a meeting of the company to review the arrangements to launch the scheme in the proposed districts. Specialised healthcare secretary Najam Ahmed Shah, chief executive PHIMC Zaheer Abbas Malik, health P&D members including Dr Shabana Haider and Dr Naeem-ud-Din Mian, senior officers from the Punjab healthcare commission, PITB and other departments attended the meeting.
Zaheer Ahmed Malik informed that in districts including Rahimyar Khan, Sargodha, Narowal and Khanewal, 0.8 million families are already being benefitted from the scheme and are getting free of cost treatment for their family members.
He also informed that the enrollments of the poor families have already been started in 13 districts which would be completed by the end of this month. He further disclosed that 56 private hospitals have been empanelled through a transparent process according to the SOPs.
The 13 districts where the Health Insurance Card scheme is being introduced are Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khushab, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Vehari and Layyah. On the occasion, the health minister said that the government is utilising all the resources to improve the health sector and ensure quality healthcare services for the people of Punjab.
He also said that special attention is being paid to provide medical coverage through the health insurance scheme to the people of southern Punjab so that no family is left deprived of proper treatment because of poverty.
Kh. Salman Rafiq further said that under this scheme, a health insurance card of Rs50,000 would be given to the registered families and the amount could be enhanced in case of any serious illness. He said that a third party validation of the health insurance project is also being carried out.
The minister directed that arrangements should immediately be finalised to launch the scheme in the proposed districts.
