Trump’s Pakistani-American aide hopes for improvement in Pak-US relations

A Pakistani-American aide of the United States (US) President Donald Trump said Friday that more than 70 years of Pakistan relationship cannot suddenly end in a week or one month, adding that he hoped that the currently strained ties between the two countries will improve soon.

“I am hopeful that Pakistan-US relationship will improve and I am not disappointed one bit. Governments on both sides are weighing their options and trying to figure out how to effectively engage each other in the future,” Sajid Tarar, the Pakistani-American aide to Trump, said.

He said that a handful of Pakistani politicians of “short stature” have been creating a mess of the situation for their own personal gains. “They are misleading the people by creating an impression of an impending war between Pakistan and US. The ground situation is completely different from what we generally hear,” Tarar said in a video message.

He further said that Pakistanis living in America have made consistent efforts to address misunderstanding between the people of both the countries by acting as a cultural bridge, adding that they were doing so to realise the dream of a better future for people of the two countries.

Replying to a query regarding US suspension of military aid to Islamabad, Tarar said that the move was not permanent and the situation was being carefully viewed by experts on both sides.

“I request the politicians in Pakistan to tread carefully over this sensitive matter and refrain from creating panic in the society,” he said, while adding that relations between the two countries would improve soon.
