KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday sought replies from Rangers director general, police inspector general, the home secretary, crime branch DIG and other officials on a petition seeking whereabouts of a missing NED University student.
A division bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, was hearing petitions filed for the recovery of Muhammad Umar, the NED University student believed to have been picked by law enforcement agency from his home located in PECHS colony.
The family member of the missing boy approached the high court and submitted that Umar was picked up by the personnel of a law enforcement agency when they entered their home forcibly on January 04 and whisked Umar away.
The also took Umar’s mobile phone and laptop and the CCTV camera footage with them.
The petitioner submitted that the family members were going through severe mental agony in his absence, adding that they were trying their best to trace out the missing person since the day of his arrest but to no avail.
Citing Rangers DG, Sindh IGP and home secretary as the respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the missing person before the court.
After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to federal and provincial law officers and the respondents, directing them to submit their respective replies by Jan 25.
