Karachi records 20,000 dog bite cases every year: Karachi Mayor

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar inaugurated the pilot program of the Rabies Free Karachi Project in Indus Hospital Korangi on Friday.

He said that garbage heaps lying everywhere in the city were also a cause of rapid dog breeding.

He said that up to 150 cases of dog bites are reported daily in the city and up 20,000 are reported annually.

He said that the victim can die if no immediate medical aid is provided to him. Industrial areas in Karachi suffer more due to these stray dogs, he said.

Indus Hospital CEO Dr Abdul Bari Khan said that the rabies control drive was being started today and so far 1.7 million dog bite patients had been treated at the Indus Hospital.

Dr Nasim Salahuddin said that vaccination for rabies was essential as by using it, a dog bite can be cured hundred percent.
