ISLAMABAD: Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo will address the joint sitting of the Parliament (Majlis-e-Shoora) on January 26, becoming the 17th foreign dignitary who will address the National Assembly and Senate’s joint sitting, a press release said on Friday.
The foreign dignitaries who had previously addressed joint sitting of the parliament includes Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, Philippines former president Diodas Macapagal, Indonesia’s former president Dr Ahmed Soekarno, former prime minister of Sri Lanka Bandaranaike, former president of Turkey Kenan Evren, former Palestinian president Yasser Arafat, former French president François Mitterrand, former speaker Majlis-i-Shura-i-Islami of Iran Hujjat Ul Islam Mehdi Karroubi, former Iranian president Ali Akbar Hashmi Rafsanjani, former speaker Majlis-i-Shura-i-Islami of Iran Hojjatol Islam Val Moslemin Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, former Chinese president Jiang Zemin, Queen Elizabeth-II, the then prime minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, former Chinese prime ministers Wen Jiabao and Li Kegiang, and President of China Xi Jingping.
Tayyip Erdogan has the honour to address the joint sitting of the parliament thrice.
Joko Widodo will become the second president of Indonesia who will address the joint sitting of the parliament.
It is pertinent to mention here that Indonesia’s Dr Ahmed Soekarno had addressed the National Assembly of Pakistan on June 26, 1963.
