ASTORE: Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman on Friday directed the secretary energy to take prompt measures to improve the energy regulation system for the welfare of the people.
He expressed these views during a presentation on different power projects by the secretary energy.
The CM said that the pilot project of smart meters has remained highly successful and its positive effects are coming with numerous benefits. This project aims to provide an uninterrupted power supply with full voltage to the people, he added.
Following the success of the project at Kanodas, smart meters should also be installed in Zulfiqarabad and the Noor Colony and it should gradually be extended to all areas of Gilgit to prevent the wastage and stealing of electricity.
The government has introduced alternative sources of energy including LNG to cater the ever-growing energy needs of the people, he added.
The CM directed the secretary to expedite the slow pace of work on the projects besides directing the contractors to ensure its timely completion. He warned the contractors of a legal action if they fail to complete their projects on time.
The CM said that the government is taking concrete steps to bring further improvements in the electricity transmission system so that it could bear a load of extra energy after the completion of mega projects.
He said that the PML-N government has inherited the problem of energy shortfall due to the poor policies of previous governments, but has accepted this challenge since after assuming power.
The CM said that a load shedding free Pakistan is a dream of the PML-N leadership and surplus energy would be availed after the completion of mega energy projects in the country.
Smooth electricity was being provided to industrial consumers, and all areas where line losses are low while the recovery is good are exempted from load shedding, added the chief minister.
He said that the construction work on mega projects at Baizal, Hunza, Attabad, and KIU after completion would not only end load shedding but will also give an enormous boost to industries and business activities across the province.
