KASUR: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited, early on Thursday, the house of seven-year-old Zainab, who was brutally murdered after rape.

He met the parents and other family members of Zainab and condoled her tragic murder. CM Shehbaz assured the bereaved family of the provision of justice in the case and offered ‘Fateha’ for the deceased.

Newly-appointed Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Zahid Khan Marwat briefed CM Shehbaz on his arrival in Kasur.

The spokesman for Punjab government, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and top police officials also accompanied Shehbaz Sharif during the visit.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Ahmad Khan said that culprits involved in Zainab case will be apprehended soon. He also said that the police officials involved in firing on unarmed protesters have been arrested.

Earlier Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the issue and formed a joint investigation team headed by Additional IG Abu Bakar Khuda Bakhsh to submit an inquiry report within 24 hours.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq also visited the family of late Zainab on Thursday.

Speaking to media on the occasion, Siraj criticised Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his administration for what he said was their failure to prevent the crime.

“Chief Minister sahib, where was your police, where was your dolphin force? Why were [they] sleeping when [Zainab] was kidnapped?” he questioned.

“Innocent Zainab was brutally murdered after being kidnapped,” the JI chief lamented, as he reiterated the demand that the culprit(s) be caught and punished.

Taking aim at the provincial chief minister, Siraj asked why it took Shehbaz Sharif [so long to visit] the deceased’s family.

“The chief minister’s office [is just] one hour’s drive away from Kasur. Zainab was a poor man’s daughter, that’s why he didn’t visit [on the same day],” the JI chief alleged.
