ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday said that “vanity is a sore and if found in a judge, it ultimately leads to the end of that judge”, while hearing a case pertaining to the incorporation of the Al-Razi Medical College (ARMC).
During the hearing, Justice Nisar told senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan that he was looking for a team of doctors who could inspect medical colleges.
At this point, Ahsan said, “A negative aspect of the lawyers’ movement then remains that judges became arrogant and lawyers, extremists.”
The CJP then replied that vanity was a sore and the death of a judge. “If found in a judge, he or she will not remain a judge.”
Justice Nisar also urged the lawyers’ community to shun a practice of extremism in the name of protests.
Justice Saqib Nisar maintained that Kasur incident is an embarrassment for the entire country as Zainab was their daughter too but he insisted that lawyers may stage protest against the brutal killing but should not boycott court proceedings as the litigants will suffer from this.
Adjourning the hearing of the case until next week, the CJP remarked,”My wife is even more aggrieved than I am over the heinous crime. Zainab is also our daughter and the lawyers must protest but a strike is unfair.”
The abduction, rape and murder of Zainab, 8, whose dead body was found from a garbage heap on Tuesday, five days after she went missing has become a focal point for Pakistan after violent protests against the incident left three dead.
Earlier, taking suo moto notice of the incident, Saqib Nisar ordered the Punjab IGP to submit a report within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah also sought a report on the incident from the Kasur district and sessions judge.
I am stunned at CJ Supreme Court descrimination. He “urges” lawyers to abstain from strike but doesn’t hesitate to warn or threaten average Pakistanis of dire consequences. Lawyer community is very close to Punjab Police in it’s despicable conduct.
