ISLAMABAD: Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General Hasnat Ahmad Qureshi on Wednesday said that the ongoing teachers protest in front of FDE was unjustified and the directorate had nothing to do with their appointment and regularization.

“The protest in front of FDE is not justified as the matters regarding appointment and regularization of teachers fall under the authority and jurisdiction of the federal government,” he said while talking to APP.

The FDE, he said, itself did not have the authority to regularize services of contractual/daily-wage teachers or make any payment to them as it was bound to obey and implement the directives of the federal government and court decisions.

The court and the federal government had already rejected the daily wage teacher’s plea for a regular appointment saying that they should adopt the government’s recruitment policy for regular appointments but the teachers refused to do so, Hasnat told the media.

“The only way under which they could be regularized was to apply through the proper channel and appear in a test and interview for their regular appointment,” he added.

“The protesting teachers should adopt a proper channel to apply for regularization under a set procedure,” he said and assured that the FDE would give them relaxation by giving five extra marks in interviews.

Answering a question, he said that the protesting teachers were demanding that the FDE should not advertise new posts for teaching staff, however, this demand could not be accepted as the directorate was in dire need of new teachers so that they can meet the needs of educational institutions.
