ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Metropolitan Corporation have started preparations for planting over 600,000 saplings in the federal capital during the upcoming spring season.

CDA Environment Directorate Executive Director, Sanaullah Aman on Wednesday told the media that the inauguration ceremony of the campaign would be held in Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9) on February 15. The ceremony will be attended by representatives of various organizations, CDA officials and a large number of students.

“The saplings would be planted in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools, colleges, universities and other organizations,” he said.

The campaign will focus on the capital’s parks, Margalla hills, and green belts to make the city greener for a healthy environment.

“A substantial number of fruit trees will also be planted,” he said adding that the topmost priority of CDA was to make the federal capital the greenest and most beautiful city in the world.

He said that tree plantation ensures a clean environment and contributes to minimizing pollution.

He also urged citizens to play their role in making the campaign successful and stated that the MCI and the CDA were playing their role in the progress and development of the city.

The trees CDA will plant be shadowy and fruit-laden trees including Kachnar, Amaltas, Chairpine, Taearanda, Olive and Jamun trees in each sector of the capital.
