CDA conducts 2482 anti-encroachment operations in 2017

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Enforcement Directorate has conducted 2482 anti-encroachment operations in the city and confiscated 32,298 different kinds of articles in the year 2017.

A senior official of the CDA told APP that 116 vehicles involved in selling edible items were also confiscated.

These operations also resulted in the demolition of 3022 different kinds of structures. Centaurus Mall, Karachi Company, G-9 Markaz and G-11 Markaz were the major operational areas.

He said that the confiscated materials were subsequently made into scrap and during the last one year, the Enforcement Directorate received 20,21,100 rupees as fine from violators and deposited it in the CDA exchequer.

“New uniforms have also been provided to the enforcement staff,” he said.

In one of the major anti-encroachment operations last year, the CDA had retrieved a 15-acre prime state land worth over Rs 20 billion, allegedly encroached upon by Centaurus Mall.

A residential complex comprising of around 400 rooms and an office complex containing around 150 rooms were demolished by the enforcement teams of the authority. Six employees including the enforcement director received serious injuries during the operation.

On the other hand, the management of the Centaurus Mall termed the operation illegal.

The operation was participated in by more than 150 officials of the enforcement wing, 30 officials of the environment wing, and assistant directors and building inspectors of BCS.

Heavy machinery was also utilised during the operation.
