Sindh CM extends Rangers’ special powers in Karachi for 90 days

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday extended the special powers granted to Rangers in Karachi for 90 days.

The special powers granted to Rangers that had also been extended earlier are due to end on Wednesday, January 10.

Sources at the Chief Minister’s House informed PPI that the Sindh chief minister has approved a summary sent by the Sindh Home Department seeking an extension of the special powers granted to the paramilitary force.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the Rangers have performed well in collaboration with the Sindh Police in conducting targeted operations and have helped maintain the law and order situation.

Under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, under special powers Rangers can take independent actions against criminals and suspected terrorists within Karachi division for 90 days.
