LAHORE: Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has started a crackdown against illegal bottled water companies and sealed 11 plants, discarding their total stock on the spot.

The PSQCA took action following the policy of the government and on special directions of DG PSQCA Engr. Khalid Siddiq, for the provision of clean drinking water to the people.

The special team raided Johar Town, Punjab Housing Society, Wapda Town, Public Accounts Society, Naz Town, NFC Housing Society, Defence Road, Raiwind Road and other posh areas of the provincial capital.

The unscrupulous manufacturers including Pure Fina Water, Heavenly Water, Pure Shifa Water, Al-Nakhal Water, Supply Water, Liquid for Life Water, Haneeba Water, Heaven H2 Water, Aqua Super Life Water, Hygyn H2O Water and Canderya Water were involved in the filling of sub-standard bottled drinking water and the companies were working illegally without having a PSQCA’s license.

The teams discarded a large quantity of stock on the spot.  DG PSQCA Engr. Khalid Siddiq said that PSQCA’s surveillance teams were continuously striving hard to trace illegal manufacturers of drinking water and added that a strict action would be taken against the companies if they were found preparing sub-standard water.

He said that working without PSQCA’s license was a heinous crime and special teams have been formed to keep a check on these black sheep.

“A mechanism has been evolved to conduct consumer awareness programmes in major superstores of different cities to raise awareness among the general public and to promote a quality culture,” he added.
