ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday condemned the January 5 ballistic missile attack on the Saudi Arabian city of Najran by the Houthi militia.
Foreign Office (FO) in a statement reiterated its full support and solidarity with the leadership, the government and people of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its territorial integrity and threats against Harmain Sharifain.
“Pakistan commends the government of Saudi Arabia for destroying the missile before it caused any civilian casualties. It is, however, concerned at reports that there was some damage to property,” the FO stated.
On November 4, 2017, Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile near King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh after it was launched from Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s southern neighbour Yemen has been torn apart by a war between the Saudi-backed government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and Houthi rebels backed by Iran. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to prop up Hadi’s government after the rebels seized the capital Sanaa.
United Nations-backed talks have so far failed to broker a political settlement to end the fighting, which has left thousands of people dead and injured and kicked off a humanitarian crisis since the coalition intervened.
