NCHR takes notice on PT’s story regarding landlord’s torture on doctor’s family

ISLAMABAD: National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has taken suo motu notice on a story ran by Pakistan Today, titled: ‘Sindh feudal maims doctor’s brother in Khairpur’.


Pakistan Today reported on Monday that an influential landlord in Kumb area of Khairpur allegedly assaulted the brother of Dr Zulfikar Mangi after the latter refused to make a home visit.

The culprit, Aga Wassan, also harassed the mother of the doctor.

A notable journalist Bilal Farooqi had posted a video of the livid doctor with a text, that read: “Aga Wassan, a vadera in Kumb, Khairpur, incensed after Dr Zulfikar Mangi refused a home visit, reportedly had the ear of the doctor’s brother cut off, his mother harassed.”

The tweet also called upon the Bhutto family, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Assefa Bhutto and Bakhtawar to take notice of the incident.

In the video, a livid Dr Mangi beside his injured brother protested the assault. His brother can be seen with a bandage wrapped around his head and blood-stained shirt.

Talking to reporters, Dr Zulfikar Mangi said they were assaulted because they had an affiliation with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
